Jobs and the Economy

Unnecessary and burdensome regulations have hindered economic growth and job creation in America. That is why I am fighting for smarter, pro-growth policies that get government out of the way and help small businesses expand and hire new workers. In fact, I have supported overturning numerous regulations written by unelected bureaucrats who do not understand the negative consequences of the rules they wrote.
Michigan has a talented workforce and world-leading manufacturing base, and we can keep it that way by promoting opportunities in the skilled trades. I am committed to ensuring residents have the opportunity to learn career and technical skills that are vital to applying for good-paying jobs.

"Unfortunately, President Biden’s unworkable policies on electric vehicles have pushed automakers and autoworkers into a corner, requiring them to follow burdensome EPA rules and forcing the entire auto supply chain to become more dependent on the Chinese Communist Party. This strike will have harmful effects on Michigan’s economy and families, and it is being caused by the policies of this out-of-touch administration. President Biden should reverse the EPA rules and let American manufacturers and workers innovate freely in the years ahead,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

“As Michigan’s only member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to support communities in the Second District with crucial funding. The project in Kent County will provide a space for education and activities for the Kent County Youth Agriculture Association. The funding for Cadillac will be used to develop a vacant site to address the need for affordable housing and development downtown. The Shelby Community Park project will be a welcomed addition to the area and be a place for residents to enjoy. I encourage local leaders to reach out to my office for more information if they are interested in funding projects for their community,” said Congressman Moolenaar.

“With the Biden administration issuing this new travel warning, you have to wonder why state and local officials continue to advocate for a deal with a subsidiary of CCP-affiliated Gotion High Tech in Mecosta County. This is another example of how the CCP is not a reliable business partner,” added Moolenaar.

"Today’s legislation is a win for the American people because it ends the broken status quo in Washington and stops the Biden spending spree that made Americans poorer with record-high inflation. The bill also includes my proposal to save billions of dollars in unused COVID funding and avoids a disastrous default on the national debt. Finally, the bill brings accountability back to the government and saves billions of dollars by adding work requirements for welfare for able-bodied Americans,” said Moolenaar.

"For four months, President Biden has jeopardized the credit of the United States and refused to work across the aisle to address the national debt. He ignored repeated calls for negotiations and now, he is one week away from putting Michigan families through a disastrous default. I voted to avoid a default and responsibly cut COVID spending that is sitting in departments in Washington D.C. Biden must follow Republicans’ lead and come to an agreement to avoid a disastrous default," said Congressman John Moolenaar.

"The Biden administration is raising mortgage fees for families who played by the rules and saved to buy a home. It is wrong to penalize these hardworking families and make it harder for them to buy a home. That is why I support legislation to stop President Biden's unfair mortgage rule," said Moolenaar.

"Today's legislation will end Biden’s reckless spending and save taxpayer dollars. Our country’s debt requires us to look at ideas to reduce spending and choose the most important priorities. COVID funding was approved two years ago as emergency spending. Now that the emergency is over, it is just common sense to stop that spending," said Moolenaar.

"President Tsai's bipartisan meetings this week have been crucial for the relationship between Taiwan and the United States. The people of Taiwan are strong partners for peace, stability, and economic growth," said Moolenaar.

The Congressmen wrote, “The scope and burden of this heavy-handed regulation are not consistent with the reality on the ground in these Southwest Michigan counties. The EPA must recognize that given these counties’ locations, meteorological factors likely brought the pollutants into this region from more major industrial centers like Chicago, IL; Gary, IN; and Milwaukee, WI. Notably, contiguous counties such as Van Buren and Ottawa were not included in this EPA decision. Furthermore, the compliance costs associated with the CAA requirements will improperly impose devastating economic losses on our hardworking communities… While we understand the need for air quality standards, this decision impacting our communities is not appropriate.”
