Jobs and the Economy

Unnecessary and burdensome regulations have hindered economic growth and job creation in America. That is why I am fighting for smarter, pro-growth policies that get government out of the way and help small businesses expand and hire new workers. In fact, I have supported overturning numerous regulations written by unelected bureaucrats who do not understand the negative consequences of the rules they wrote.
Michigan has a talented workforce and world-leading manufacturing base, and we can keep it that way by promoting opportunities in the skilled trades. I am committed to ensuring residents have the opportunity to learn career and technical skills that are vital to applying for good-paying jobs.

“We welcome this exciting news that will help to secure the future of Selfridge Air National Guard Base for decades to come. The twelve KC-46A refueling tankers – a larger unit than the eight KC-135s now at Selfridge – are next-generation aircraft that will strengthen American defense operations and capabilities for future threats, particularly as we prepare for potential conflicts in the Indo-Pacific. Operating these tankers out of Selfridge will ensure the base – and Michigan – remain essential to U.S. military strategy while supporting local jobs and our state’s robust defense sector. Our bipartisan coalition pushed for basing KC-46s and a future fighter mission at Selfridge, holding dozens of meetings and calls with senior Air Force officials and hosting them in Michigan to emphasize the importance of our state and Selfridge to national security. Our delegation is grateful to the Air Force for their professionalism throughout this process. Importantly, Air Force officials have made it clear that this decision will not prevent Selfridge from being considered for a future fighter mission. We remain committed to achieving that goal.”

“Our economic relationship with the Chinese Communist Party must change. The CCP has been using its economic aggression to take advantage of American policies. Michigan workers and businesses are hurting because of it. The policies recommended by my colleagues and I must be addressed by Congress to help ensure our country is competing on a level playing field,” said Moolenaar. “My recommendations to safeguard energy research and make sure CCP-affiliated companies do not receive taxpayer funding are crucial to the future of our nation. Congress should quickly heed the Select Committee’s recommendations, including passing my NO GOTION Act.”

“Vocational education provides students with affordable alternatives to college and allows them to gain the skills they need for good-paying jobs. It is vital that these courses remain available for students and the TASK Act would ensure this essential instruction remains affordable for students in Michigan and across the country,” said Moolenaar.

“Over the past year, we have learned about the very concerning ties Gotion has with the Chinese Communist Party, including its parent company making products for the Chinese military, and the son of a CCP official leading Gotion’s American operations. The CCP will use any form of leverage it has to pursue its agenda and further its goals against the United States,” said Moolenaar. “The Gotion project is still not in the best interest of Michigan and should be stopped.”

"While I support Ford’s decision to put the Marshall project on hold, President Biden should end his tailpipe policies and give American automakers and their employees the freedom to innovate and create the auto technologies of the future. Right now, Biden’s current policies force American auto companies to be more dependent on the Chinese Communist Party and the electric vehicle materials that China has a stranglehold on,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

"Unfortunately, President Biden’s unworkable policies on electric vehicles have pushed automakers and autoworkers into a corner, requiring them to follow burdensome EPA rules and forcing the entire auto supply chain to become more dependent on the Chinese Communist Party. This strike will have harmful effects on Michigan’s economy and families, and it is being caused by the policies of this out-of-touch administration. President Biden should reverse the EPA rules and let American manufacturers and workers innovate freely in the years ahead,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

“As Michigan’s only member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to support communities in the Second District with crucial funding. The project in Kent County will provide a space for education and activities for the Kent County Youth Agriculture Association. The funding for Cadillac will be used to develop a vacant site to address the need for affordable housing and development downtown. The Shelby Community Park project will be a welcomed addition to the area and be a place for residents to enjoy. I encourage local leaders to reach out to my office for more information if they are interested in funding projects for their community,” said Congressman Moolenaar.

“With the Biden administration issuing this new travel warning, you have to wonder why state and local officials continue to advocate for a deal with a subsidiary of CCP-affiliated Gotion High Tech in Mecosta County. This is another example of how the CCP is not a reliable business partner,” added Moolenaar.

"Today’s legislation is a win for the American people because it ends the broken status quo in Washington and stops the Biden spending spree that made Americans poorer with record-high inflation. The bill also includes my proposal to save billions of dollars in unused COVID funding and avoids a disastrous default on the national debt. Finally, the bill brings accountability back to the government and saves billions of dollars by adding work requirements for welfare for able-bodied Americans,” said Moolenaar.

"For four months, President Biden has jeopardized the credit of the United States and refused to work across the aisle to address the national debt. He ignored repeated calls for negotiations and now, he is one week away from putting Michigan families through a disastrous default. I voted to avoid a default and responsibly cut COVID spending that is sitting in departments in Washington D.C. Biden must follow Republicans’ lead and come to an agreement to avoid a disastrous default," said Congressman John Moolenaar.
