“My legislation will protect American taxpayers and stop their tax dollars from going to the Chinese Communist Party. I welcome my Senate colleagues support for this commonsense legislation. It is unfortunate that the Biden Treasury Department would allow billions of taxpayer dollars to flow to CCP-affiliated companies. This legislation will stop the Treasury’s rule and protect the American people,” said Moolenaar.

“Gotion High-Tech is partnering with a university that helps China’s military. This is a dangerous partnership that will actively work against America and it is another example of how Gotion is a tool for the CCP to advance its own interests against the United States. This shows yet again that Gotion is a bad business partner for Michigan and it should not be allowed to build a factory in our state,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

“While we are pleased with this initial step, we remain concerned that CATL and Gotion’s supply chains are deeply tied to the Xinjiang region. It is past time to stop spending taxpayer dollars partnering with Gotion and CATL. American companies should cut ties with these Chinese Communist Party-aligned battery companies and focus on developing a resilient supply chain free of forced labor. The Biden-Harris Administration rules that would allow American taxpayer dollars to subsidize Chinese batteries tainted by slave labor must also be reversed. Additionally, we must advance our bipartisan legislation, the Decoupling from Foreign Adversarial Battery Dependency Act, to not only eradicate forced labor from U.S. supply chains, but to reduce our dependency on China.”

“Chaldean Christians in Iraq have been subject to countless atrocities and genocide over the last decade. This important bipartisan legislation expresses the Unites States’ commitment to upholding the human rights of the Chaldean people. No one should ever be persecuted for their religious beliefs, and I am grateful my resolution has been passed by the House. The Chaldean community has made outstanding contributions to the state of Michigan, and I will continue my work to support them in Michigan and around the world,” said Moolenaar.

“Under no circumstance should the CCP be allowed to benefit from the tax dollars of hardworking American families. Unfortunately, the Biden administration's 45X rule has left the door open for CCP-affiliated companies, like Gotion, to reap billions in taxpayer funding. That’s wrong and the commonsense bipartisan legislation we are introducing today will stop it," said Moolenaar.

"President Biden's electric vehicle mandate is killing Michigan jobs and hurting our automakers. His administration is working to force EVs into the market when Americans who have made it clear they do not want them. I look forward to working with President-elect Trump to end Biden's EV mandate, and strengthen Michigan's auto industry," said Congressman John Moolenaar.

The lawmakers wrote to Benson, “Your department failed to prevent this illegal vote from being cast and will reportedly count it in the results next week. House Republicans have raised concerns about noncitizens voting in elections and earlier this year the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8281 – the SAVE Act with a bipartisan 221-198 vote. The SAVE Act would require individuals to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections, and it is shameful our colleagues in the Senate refused to pass this commonsense legislation.”

Through its extensive military-aligned departments and laboratories, advanced dual-use research programs, and large-scale operational training platforms, Shanghai Jiao Tong drives the [People’s Republic of China] PRC’s military modernization and intelligence capabilities…This military-academic integration enables Shanghai Jiao Tong to make significant contributions to the PRC’s most sensitive defense programs, including nuclear weapons, carrier rockets, satellites, nuclear submarines, and fighter jets…The [U-M] Joint Institute has also operated as a sophisticated military-academic-intelligence nexus for over a decade. In 2017, Shanghai Jiao Tong entered into an agreement with the PLA's Strategic Support Force to train ‘high-end new combat forces.’ The Joint Institute appears to play a role in achieving this goal. Each year's freshmen are organized into regimented companies for mandatory military training that combines physical drills with ideological education.”’

“Secretary Jocelyn Benson has hurt the public’s trust in Michigan elections as her department failed to prevent this illegal vote from being cast and will count it in the results next week. The University of Michigan should expel this student for violating our laws and our state’s leaders need to take serious action against the Chinese Communist Party’s attempts to influence our state. Secretary Benson must tell us how she will prevent similar election fraud in the next week, and how she will secure our elections against CCP interference. Governor Whitmer must cancel the state’s $715 million giveaway of taxpayer money to CCP-affiliated Gotion and end its plans to build near Camp Grayling. Finally, U-M President Santa Ono needs to shut down his university’s institute with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which collaborates with China’s military. Until these actions happen, our state's security, elections, universities, and auto supply chains will remain vulnerable to CCP influence,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

Today’s announcement by the Treasury Department leaves the door wide open for Gotion and other Chinese companies to receive federal tax credits. It is a disgraceful policy that will take money from hardworking Michigan families and funnel it straight to Beijing while forcing our Michigan automakers to become more dependent on supply chains controlled by China.
