Moolenaar Introduces Bill to Empower Michigan Parents, Keep School Control Local

January 31, 2025

In honor of National School Choice Week, Congressman John Moolenaar today reintroduced the “Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success (A-PLUS) Act,” a bill to keep education tax dollars in the hands of Michigan parents, teachers and local leaders. The legislation has also been introduced by Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) in the United States Senate.

“State and local governments know their students’ needs better than Washington bureaucrats and have a primary responsibility for education. The A-PLUS Act sends money back to the states, so state and local governments can address their educational needs as they see fit. This legislation cuts burdensome red-tape and moves funding closer to parents and students,” said Moolenaar.

“Bureaucrats in Washington don’t know Montana students like Montana parents and teachers do,” said Daines. “That’s why our education tax dollars should be spent by Montanans on Montanans. The future is brighter when our students are receiving high quality local education from the ones who know their individual needs.”

Moolenaar's legislation has been cosponsored by Congressmen Chuck Edwards (R-NC), Mark Green (R-TN), and Brett Guthrie (R-KY). The text of the A-PLUS Act can be found here.
