I encourage community leaders in our district to apply for federal funding and I will continue to support federal investments that benefit mid Michigan residents through my work on the House Appropriations Committee."

In 2018, we made more progress on the Soo Locks than has been made in decades. From the end of April through the end of December, new developments have brought a new lock closer to fruition. In April, I joined Michigan Congressmen Jack Bergman and Paul Mitchell for a conversation with President Donald Trump about the Soo Locks.
U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, said in a statement following the bill's passage that he supports the new work requirement.
"With the economy doing well and unemployment under four percent, there are currently more job openings than there are job seekers," he said. "It's never been a better time to find a job or to enroll in training to learn the skills needed for a good-paying job."
