"I will always defend the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans," said Congressman Moolenaar. "Right now, every commercial gun purchase in America goes through the national background check system, but today's legislation goes too far. It would give the FBI unlimited time to dig into the background of every person who purchases a gun. An unlimited timeframe is an abuse of power against law-abiding Americans and they would have no legal recourse to defend their Constitutional rights."

Bridge Was Rebuilt and Reopened Using Federal Funds Moolenaar Secured Last Year
“M-30 is a vital road in Gladwin County that residents use every day for work, school, and recreation. The reopening of this bridge will make travel easier for residents and support our community," said Congressman Moolenaar. "I'm proud to have advocated for federal support in rebuilding this public road and I know the people of this area will benefit from the reopening of the bridge."

The Legislation Also Bails Out Andrew Cuomo
“Nearly all of this legislation passed by the Democrats is a pork barrel list of priorities that is unrelated to the pandemic,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “Ninety-five percent of the money that is in this bill for schools will not even be used this year. So Democrats are taking the money from taxpayers now and not even giving it to schools until years later. Republicans have repeatedly proposed legislation requiring schools to re-open immediately, but Democrats have rejected it despite clear evidence school closures are hurting students, with an increased risk of suicide and a decline in academic performance.

“The men and women of the Michigan National Guard have served honorably, and I am glad they will be able to return home to their families very soon,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “It was an honor to spend time with them today and thank them for serving our nation."

March 3, 2021 Press Release
“The biggest challenge facing many American teenagers right now is too many of them are being kept out of the classroom even though scientific research shows it is safe for them to return,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “It’s time for schools to be open for instruction five days a week, so students can learn in the classroom with their peers and be ready to carry on the civic traditions of our nation when they reach adulthood at age 18.”
March 3, 2021 Press Release
“Taxpayers simply do not want their tax dollars being used to pay for political campaigns and I voted against this bill to try and stop that from happening," said Moolenaar. “I also voted against the legislation because it is a federal takeover of elections that would eliminate state laws across the country requiring voter identification. Americans use ID to drive and make purchases, and states provide IDs to those who cannot afford them. Voter ID helps ensure election integrity and states should require it.”
March 2, 2021 Press Release
“It is unacceptable that contaminated and undercooked food is being served to Michigan National Guard members keeping our nation safe. This issue must be fixed immediately and the company that failed should have its contract terminated," said Congressman Moolenaar. “Michigan National guard members brought this situation to my attention when I met with them and I hope General Hokanson will address the issue quickly.”
February 26, 2021 Press Release
“Last year, I voted for bipartisan COVID relief packages that brought much needed relief to Michigan families, health care professionals, schools, and small businesses. A lot of this funding is still available and the Biden Administration is not being honest when it says it needs tonight's bill to re-open schools. There is still $59 billion in approved school aid that has not been spent and scientific research shows it's safe to re-open classrooms and let every American student have the opportunity for in-person learning. “Democrats should join Republicans in getting students back in the classroom, making vaccines available to everyone who wants one, and letting small businesses safely and fully re-open. Unfortunately, tonight they decided to pass a bill that will spend billions to bailout state governments while putting more burdens on small businesses that have been devastated by the pandemic and state-imposed restrictions. Today’s bill is not COVID relief. It is a repeat of the failed Obama-Biden spending policies that led to the slowest economic recovery in American history."
