Mecosta County Residents Vote Against Gotion Again

January 3, 2025

The Mecosta County Board of Commissioners has voted to rescind support for Gotion's planned battery component factory in Green Charter Township. The newly-elected commissioners who ran on their opposition to Gotion quickly acted to oppose the company’s plan. Residents of Mecosta County have repeatedly voted in opposition to the project. In the past two Novembers they have voted out  Green Charter Township board members who approved the project and voted in county commissioners  opposed to it. Congressman John Moolenaar, who represents Mecosta County in the U.S. House of Representatives is opposed to the project and has highlighted many of the problems with Gotion’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

"The Mecosta County Commissioners’ decision to end support for Gotion is yet another sign that the people of Mecosta County do not want Gotion. The company has troubling ties to the CCP and relies on forced labor in China in its supply chains. The Department of Defense even refuses to do business with Gotion because it poses a threat to our national security. The people of Mecosta County have made it clear multiple times they do not want Gotion in our community and they do not want their tax dollars going to a CCP-affiliated company. The state of Michigan, the MEDC, and Gotion should listen to the people and end this project once and for all,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

In June, an investigation conducted by the House Select Committee on the CCP, which Moolenaar leads, uncovered Gotion's reliance on forced labor in China through its supply chains. Last year, Moolenaar held a roundtable discussion in Green Charter Township, where national security experts explained how Gotion is a threat to our national security.
