Moolenaar Bill Honoring An American Hero Passes the Senate and Heads to the President's Desk

December 21, 2024

The U.S. Senate unanimously passed Congressman John Moolenaar’s bipartisan legislation to rename the outpatient VA clinic in Cadillac in honor of the late U.S. Marine Corporal Duane Dewey, a Michigan native and Medal of Honor recipient. The bill was passed by the Senate on Saturday and it now heads to President Biden's desk to be signed into law.

"Duane Dewey was a selfless patriot who courageously served our nation and defended our freedoms. His acts of heroism, life of service, and dedication to veterans are an inspiration," said Moolenaar. "Renaming the VA clinic in Cadillac in Dewey’s honor is a tribute to all he accomplished. I am thankful to my Senate colleagues for unanimously supporting my legislation honoring this American hero, and I hope President Biden will sign it into law in the days ahead."

Moolenaar’s legislation to honor Dewey was cosponsored by every member of the Michigan Congressional delegation and endorsed by Michigan veterans groups including the American Legion Department of Michigan, the Michigan Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Michigan.
