The legislation ensures that sexual assault survivors in federal criminal cases have the right to a sexual assault evidence kit. It also allows victims to request that their kit be preserved so charges can be brought in the future.

On July 27, Congressman John Moolenaar presented Ronald Hnizda of Roscommon with service medals he earned for his Army service in Vietnam. Hnizda received The Bronze Star Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device, the Marksman Badge with the Rifle Bar, and the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative Pin.

"The Ways and Means Committee was looking into health care issues and noticed this was an unfair part of the law so I was able to introduce the resolution," Moolenaar said. "Chief Cloutier wrote a letter of support and the legislation will help members of the Saginaw Chippewa tribe when they go to Indian Health Services in Mt. Pleasant."
