"This is outstanding news for Beaverton and Gladwin County," said Congressman John Moolenaar. "This new development will create more than 200 jobs and it is a direct result of the Opportunity Zones in tax reform, which I supported in 2017. Tax reform has spurred developments including today's, as businesses across mid and northern Michigan build new facilities and create more good-paying jobs.

Today, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed bipartisan legislation to provide emergency funding to meet the needs of the crisis on the country's southern border. The legislation passed the House by a vote of 305 to 102. Yesterday, the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 84 to 8. The bill now goes to President Trump for his signature.

This past month has been tremendous for the Great Lakes. There were developments on three different fronts: funding for constructing a new lock at the Soo Locks, funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and a new plan to prevent Asian carp from entering Lake Michigan through the waterways near Chicago.

This funding is the next step in building the lock, which helps shipping on the Great Lakes and creates jobs. I know the Army Corps is already looking for people to work on this project and I will continue to fight for this funding as it moves forward in Congress.”

This legislation is a common-sense solution that allows the federal law enforcement officers to purchase and keep the firearm they have been training with and maintaining for years.
