Our nation's long-term energy policy must be aimed at reducing prices for American families and businesses. I support an all-of-the-above energy strategy that utilizes our nation's abundant domestic resources so we can continue to be an energy-independent nation.

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar introduced the Withdrawing Absurd, Senseless, and Haphazard Energy Regulations (WASHER) Act to stop the Department of Energy from implementing new rules on washing machines that would regulate them to be less efficient.

Line 5 is a vital source of energy for Michigan families who rely on propane for home energy. On his first day in office, President Biden shut down construction of an international pipeline and ended new drilling leases on federal land. The provision I included in today’s legislation will ensure the Biden Administration cannot shutdown an international pipeline that Michigan families depend on for home energy” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

"We cannot allow the recipients of taxpayer dollars to receive grants for battery research and then turn around and work with China-based companies. Our country is in a competition against the Chinese Communist Party and we must have guardrails that protect our research dollars, our intellectual property, and the innovation funded by hardworking men and women who pay taxes. Companies like Gotion, which is based in China, have no business receiving federal funding," said Moolenaar.

"When our country moved from typewriters to personal computers, we did not need rules from the executive branch forcing typewriters from the market. Yet, the Department of Energy has proposed regulations on washing machines that would push affordable options for Michigan families out of the market while making it harder to wash clothes," said Moolenaar. "My amendment is a win for clean clothes, consumer choice, and stopping another burdensome regulation from the Biden administration.”

"President Biden's overreaching policies are targeting the gas stoves thousands of Michigan residents rely on and like having in their homes. His administration should abandon its rulemaking and let Americans choose the stoves that are best for them and where they live. President Biden’s energy policies have hurt our country and made energy more expensive. That is why I voted to stop him from banning new gas stoves," said Moolenaar.

"Today’s legislation is a win for the American people because it ends the broken status quo in Washington and stops the Biden spending spree that made Americans poorer with record-high inflation. The bill also includes my proposal to save billions of dollars in unused COVID funding and avoids a disastrous default on the national debt. Finally, the bill brings accountability back to the government and saves billions of dollars by adding work requirements for welfare for able-bodied Americans,” said Moolenaar.

Today marks two straight years that the national average gas price has been above $3.00 per gallon. Comparatively, the national average gas price never rose above $3.00 per gallon for a single day from January 2017 to January 2021.

"Today's legislation will end Biden’s reckless spending and save taxpayer dollars. Our country’s debt requires us to look at ideas to reduce spending and choose the most important priorities. COVID funding was approved two years ago as emergency spending. Now that the emergency is over, it is just common sense to stop that spending," said Moolenaar.

"For the last 700 days, Michigan families have been forced to pay higher costs at the pump because of President Biden’s policies. He killed a pipeline project and thousands of American jobs on his first day in office, and has made it harder to produce energy here in our country. That is why I voted for the Lower Energy Costs Act. It will help Michigan families, create jobs, and cut red tape so more energy is Made in the USA."

"The Biden administration's new rules will all but force Americans to buy electric cars. This is wrong. We need competition and policies that let Americans choose the vehicles that best meet their needs. Americans are always willing to adapt technology, and they do not need the government to force them to do it. In the past 30 years alone, Americans have bought personal computers and smart phones because they wanted the technology and it was affordable, not because the government forced them to do it. The average cost of an electric vehicle last year was $61,000. Michigan families cannot afford this terrible Biden policy," said Congressman John Moolenaar.
