"I enjoyed meeting with President Trump today. I spoke with him about the Great Lakes and their importance to our state. "After a fair and thorough two-year investigation of the 2016 presidential campaign, Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller has found no collusion. In Congress, I am working on the issues most important to Michigan residents including jobs and the economy, protecting the Great Lakes, funding the Soo Locks, and fighting the opioid crisis. I hope Democrats will end their partisan attacks and work across the aisle so we can have bipartisan results for the American people."

“This is incredible news for Michigan. The Soo Locks are vital to shipping on the Great Lakes and the American economy. Since Congressman Bergman, Congressman Mitchell and myself talked to President Trump about the Soo Locks last April, there has been more progress on building a new Lock than there has been in decades. This new funding will create jobs and benefit our entire state.”

“Last year, we made incredible progress in funding the Army Corps, and having it include Soo Locks construction in its work plan. I successfully worked across the aisle on the Appropriations Committee to fund vital priorities including fighting the opioid crisis, expanding rural broadband access, and fully-funding the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. I look forward to continuing this important work for Michigan in the months ahead as Congress debates federal funding for 2020.”

“Michigan residents work hard to provide for their families and they want their tax dollars to be used for protecting the Great Lakes, funding infrastructure, and keeping our country safe. They want their hard-earned money to be used for important priorities and not for political campaigns.”

“Last year, I supported a new law to help fix the national background check system with more funding so states could update the system with timely information and keep guns out of the hands of people who are already prohibited from owning them. I voted against today’s legislation because it would presume all gun owners are guilty and create unfair delays for law-abiding Michigan residents who want to purchase a gun and exercise their Second Amendment rights.”
