“The University of Michigan is making the right decision in ending its joint institute with a Chinese university, and more of our nation’s universities should follow U-M’s action. My committee has put a spotlight on the fact that too many American universities are collaborating with CCP researchers on critical technologies including weapons, artificial intelligence, and nuclear physics. The results of these collaborations could one day be turned against our country, and we cannot allow that to happen. In U-M’s case, its Chinese joint institute partner was helping the CCP modernize its military, and then five students who came to Michigan from China through the joint institute ended up spying on Camp Grayling. American universities should end these types of joint institutes and protect the security of our nation’s research,” said Moolenaar.

"The Mecosta County Commissioners’ decision to end support for Gotion is yet another sign that the people of Mecosta County do not want Gotion. The company has troubling ties to the CCP and relies on forced labor in China in its supply chains. The Department of Defense even refuses to do business with Gotion because it poses a threat to our national security. The people of Mecosta County have made it clear multiple times they do not want Gotion in our community and they do not want their tax dollars going to a CCP-affiliated company. The state of Michigan, the MEDC, and Gotion should listen to the people and end this project once and for all,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

“My legislation will protect American taxpayers and stop their tax dollars from going to the Chinese Communist Party. I welcome my Senate colleagues support for this commonsense legislation. It is unfortunate that the Biden Treasury Department would allow billions of taxpayer dollars to flow to CCP-affiliated companies. This legislation will stop the Treasury’s rule and protect the American people,” said Moolenaar.

This important bipartisan legislation expresses the Unites States’ commitment to upholding the human rights of the Chaldean people. No one should ever be persecuted for their religious beliefs, and I am grateful my resolution has been passed by the House. The Chaldean community has made outstanding contributions to the state of Michigan, and I will continue my work to support them in Michigan and around the world,” said Moolenaar.

“Under no circumstance should the CCP be allowed to benefit from the tax dollars of hardworking American families. Unfortunately, the Biden administration's 45X rule has left the door open for CCP-affiliated companies, like Gotion, to reap billions in taxpayer funding. That’s wrong and the commonsense bipartisan legislation we are introducing today will stop it," said Moolenaar.

We write to express our deep concern regarding the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s apparent failure to block Gotion Incorporated (Gotion)—an entity with deep ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)—from developing a large industrial site near a major U.S. military installation.

"The world is safer today thanks to the Israeli military operation that eliminated Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. American citizens have been killed by Sinwar and his terrorists, and his death today is justice for the families of his victims. I will continue to stand with Israel as it fights to free the remaining hostages and defeat Hamas," said Congressman John Moolenaar.
