This Veterans Day, we celebrate with the men and women who have defended our country. With their service they have made the world a better place and they continue to make a positive difference in our communities today.
This year, I had the honor of presenting five veterans in our region with medals, including two with the Purple Heart. All veterans deserve recognition for their service and I am privileged to assist these gentlemen in receiving their awards.
I would like to share their stories with you.
Congressman John Moolenaar said, "I think it's important the FAA make a decision and make it soon because people throughout our region would benefit from that. The capital-to-capital transportation, it' served our community very well and we hope they get their job done."

Today, the Sixth Circuit of Appeals issued a stay temporarily blocking the Environmental Protection Agency from implementing its overreaching Waters of the U.S. Rule until further litigation can be resolved.
Representative John Moolenaar (R-Midland) issued the following statement:
"In hearing from farmers across the district, I know many were worried that this overreaching rule from the EPA would interfere in their daily operations. Today's court decision is a victory for them.
Today, the House Budget Committee advanced legislation to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act. The legislation is part of the budget reconciliation process, which allows it to advance through the U.S. Senate with support from a simple majority. It is not subject to a Senate filibuster.

The office of U.S. Representative John Moolenaar is now accepting applications from high school seniors for nominations to the U.S. service academies.
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY.
This week, Probate Judge Ken Tacoma, the presiding judge of the Family Division for the 28th Circuit Family Court in Cadillac, was honored as one of 250 honorees from 50 states at this year's Angels in Adoption event held on Tuesday by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute in Washington, D.C.
Judge Tacoma's efforts on adoption have led to significant changes in state law and improved the lives of countless children in Michigan.
