"For me to be able to personally hand that to her on behalf of a grateful nation means a lot," Moolenaar said.
"It was Brenda, Harry's daughter, who is here today, who reached out to my office," said Moolenaar. "In doing so, she helped ensure that our country continues to honor the men and women who have served our country."
"We want to assist in honoring our veterans in every way. It's a way of honoring their families for their sacrifice, nut it also speaks a very powerful message to future generations that this kind of sacrifice will not be forgotten," he said.
"With the president coming out showing his support, Homeland Security showing support, and now, the Army Corps of Engineers, I think we've had a lot of progress on that front," he said. "It's good for Michigan. The taconite, which goes into our iron ore and steel for autos, appliances and other manufacturers comes through there, so it's vital for the whole industrial, manufacturing supply chain in North America."

The contest is open to all K-12 students who can compete individually or in teams of up to four people. The winning individual or team from the Fourth District will have their app displayed in the U.S. Capitol. They will also have the option to attend an event in Washington D.C. where they will showcase their app alongside other winning students from across the United States.
"Today's legislation makes it crystal clear: President Trump, Republicans and Democrats support a new lock in the Soo," said U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, who has been pushing for authorization of the project and is likely to be a key member to secure funding as the state's only member of the Appropriations Committee.
