Congress should lead by example to reduce federal spending and the national debt. Since 2010, Congress has passed legislation to freeze the pay of legislators. Members of Congress and their staff are also required to participate in the health care exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act.
Likewise, Congress should continue to exercise its oversight authority of the Executive Branch. I believe Congress must work to rein in expansion of Administrative power and uphold the legislative responsibilities given to Congress by the Constitution.

Moolenaar has pushed legislation through, including legislation to hold the Environmental Protection Agency accountable to notify families when there are elevated levels of lead in water, as well as initiatives to provide nutritious food for children in Flint, and safe water to the community.

"My understanding is that the EPA was aware as early as February of last year that corrosion controls that would have prevented lead from leaching from the pipes were not being implemented, that there were serious concerns about raised levels of lead, in fact, above the enforcement action level of the EPA," Moolenaar said. "EPA was aware of that and did nothing."
