Rep. Moolenaar's Statement on the House Republican Budget

March 15, 2016

Today, House Republicans released their budget for the fiscal year that begins on October 1, 2016, and runs through September 30, 2017.

The budget proposal sets the top-line targets for government funding in the next fiscal year and provides the guideline for specific funding to departments, agencies and programs in the Congressional appropriations process.

As a member of the House Budget Committee, Representative John Moolenaar (R-Midland) released the following statement:

"The national debt is over $19 trillion and the American people are tired of Washington spending money with no regard for the country's future.

"The president's budget proposal never balances and it raises taxes on hardworking Michigan taxpayers by 22 cents per gallon of gas. I oppose the president's plan.

"I support the conservative budget released today because it moves our country toward a sustainable fiscal future. The budget balances, keeps the promises that have been made to our seniors and improves our national security. It reduces spending in Washington and leaves more money where it belongs – in the pockets of hardworking Americans."
