Moolenaar’s Native American Health Savings Act Passed by Ways and Means Committee
The House Ways and Means Committee has passed Congressman John Moolenaar’s Native American Health Savings Improvement Act. Moolenaar’s bill would eliminate a three-month waiting period for Native Americans to contribute to their Health Savings Account (HSA) after receiving care at an Indian Health Service (IHS) facility.
The Native American Health Savings Act is bipartisan, common-sense legislation that will make it easier for Native Americans to contribute to their HSAs and save money for their health care. I am happy to see this important legislation has been passed by the Ways and Means Committee. I encourage my colleagues in the House of Representatives to support it when it comes to the floor,” said Moolenaar.
Moolenaar introduced the Native American Health Savings Improvement Act with Congressman Raul Ruiz M.D. (D-CA) on September 18th, 2023. In committee, Moolenaar’s legislation was included in H.R. 5687, the HSA Modernization Act of 2023, a larger bill which makes additional changes to health savings accounts. The House previously passed Moolenaar’s Native American Health Savings Act unanimously in 2016.
