Moolenaar: Voting is a Right for Citizens, and Only Citizens
Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted for legislation to stop non-citizens from voting in local elections in Washington, D.C. Last year, the local D.C. government enacted a law that allows non-citizens, including illegal immigrants and foreign diplomats to vote in local elections in 2024.
“Voting is a fundamental right for American citizens to determine who will lead their communities and represent them in government. It is disgraceful that our nation’s capital city would allow illegal immigrants and foreign diplomats from any country to vote in local elections. The legislation I voted for today will repeal this out-of-touch decision by the far-left leaders of the capital city and help secure election integrity. The Democrats leading the Senate should pass this bill immediately, and President Biden should sign it into law,” said Moolenaar.
Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution gives Congress the authority to intervene and overturn legislation enacted by the government of Washington, D.C. H.R. 192 passed the House of Representatives in a bipartisan vote of 262 to 143.
