Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted in favor of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which overwhelmingly passed the House on a bipartisan vote of 329-73. The legislation supports pregnant workers by securing their right to reasonable accommodations in the workplace.

“I believe women should be treated fairly and should never have to make an unfair choice between having a career and raising a family,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “This legislation provides workplace protections for Michigan women while they are pregnant so they can safely raise their children and pursue their career."

The legislation says pregnant workers cannot be denied opportunities in the workplace and should not face retaliation for asking for fair and sensible accommodations based on their pregnancy. Additionally, employers would not be forced to make accommodations if it would be considered a hardship to the business, similar to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
