Moolenaar Votes to End Rule Burdening Michigan Farmers

March 9, 2023

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted for legislation that would repeal the Biden administration's Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. The Biden administration's rule greatly expands the definition of what is a navigable body of water and would increase the regulation of water on farmland in Michigan.

"Michigan farmers work hard while dealing with the weather, rising costs, and the 24/7 needs of their farms. The Biden administration’s new rule is imposed by executive order and goes too far. It would allow bureaucrats in Washington D.C. to regulate the puddles and ditches on farmers’ fields," said Moolenaar. "I voted to overturn Biden’s rule - so farmers can focus on growing food instead of worrying about Biden’s red tape."

The Environmental Protection Agency finalized its WOTUS rule on January 18, 2023 with an effective date of March 20, 2023. This legislation would repeal the rule using the Congressional Review Act, a 1996 law that allows Congress to overturn executive branch regulations.
