Moolenaar Votes To End Biden’s Executive Rules on Electric Vehicles

December 6, 2023

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted to pass H.R. 4468, the Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act of 2023. The legislation would block the Environmental Protection Agency from enforcing Biden administration rules on tailpipe emission standards that will force gas-powered vehicles out of the auto market in order to increase the number of electric vehicles sold in the U.S.

“President Biden’s push for electric vehicles goes against what the American people want and plays right into the hands of the Chinese Communist Party, which wants to monopolize critical minerals and the EV supply chain. When our nation made the shift from typewriters to computers, we didn’t need government rules to end the sale of typewriters. President Biden should end his out-of-touch EPA rules and let Americans choose the vehicles they want,” said Moolenaar.

President Biden has set a goal to have two-thirds of new cars sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2032. However, in 2023, demand for electric vehicles was lower than expected, with CNBC reporting “electric vehicles are piling up at dealership lots.” Moolenaar is an original cosponsor of the CARS Act. The legislation passed the House of Representatives 221 to 197.
