Moolenaar Supports Bipartisan Solution for the Border Crisis
Today, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed bipartisan legislation to provide emergency funding to meet the needs of the crisis on the country's southern border. The legislation passed the House by a vote of 305 to 102. Yesterday, the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 84 to 8. The bill now goes to President Trump for his signature.
The legislation funds critical needs for border enforcement, including overtime for overworked law enforcement agents who have seen an influx in the number of migrants crossing the border over the past few months.
The legislation also has more than $2 billion to meet the humanitarian needs of children who have crossed the border.
Congressman John Moolenaar supported the legislation and made the following statement:
"This bipartisan legislation supports men and women in law enforcement who are working hard to secure our border and ensures they will be paid overtime for their efforts to keep our country safe. It also provides funding that meets the humanitarian needs of the migrants who are coming to the border, including food, formula and diapers for children. Finally, it funds efforts to investigate and arrest criminals who are using children in human trafficking."
