Moolenaar Statement on the Senate’s Vote Against Charter Schools
Congressman John Moolenaar is leading the fight for charter schools and educational freedom in Congress. In the House, he is the sponsor of a resolution that uses the Congressional Review Act to abolish President Biden's new rules against charter schools. Today, the U.S. Senate voted on its version of Congressman Moolenaar's resolution which is led by Senator Tim Scott (R-SC). The Senate rejected the resolution in a 49-49 tie vote that went along party lines.
"Today’s vote is a disappointing result for parents and students who were counting on the U.S. Senate to reject President Biden’s attack on their charter schools. As co-chairs of the School Choice Caucus, Senator Scott and I will continue our work to fight for school choice and educational freedom for students and parents,” said Moolenaar.
House Joint Resolution 94, led by Moolenaar, overturns the Biden administration's new rules on charter schools that went into effect in September. The new rules burden charter schools with red tape and regulations, including new requirements forcing them to co-develop curriculums with public schools and share enrollment information with their public counterparts.
The Senate version of the resolution, which was voted on today, is SJR 60.
