Moolenaar Statement on Protests in Iran

January 13, 2020

This past weekend, and continuing this week, citizens in Iran have gathered to publicly protest the Iranian government shooting down a Ukrainian airliner, killing all 176 people onboard. The demonstrations are also a follow-up on protests that occurred in November of last year when the Iranian government killed hundreds of its own citizens.

Congressman John Moolenaar made the following statement on the demonstrations:

"People around the world this week are supporting courageous citizens in Iran as they peacefully protest Ayatollah Khamenei and his regime. They are risking their lives to protest a leader that has sponsored decades of terrorism around the world and deprived his people of peace and prosperity. The world is watching and I am willing to support additional sanctions against the government of Iran if it attacks the protesters."
