Moolenaar to Serve on the Appropriations Committee

January 27, 2023

Congressman John Moolenaar has been appointed to the House Committee on Appropriations. The committee is considered to be one of the most powerful committees in Congress and it is responsible for writing legislation that formally sets the funding levels for departments, agencies, and programs in the federal budget.

"I am grateful for the privilege to advocate for Michigan’s most important priorities including rural development, protecting the Great Lakes, and supporting seniors. I will be questioning federal officials and holding them accountable for their spending proposals. Michigan residents work hard and their tax dollars should never be wasted,” said Moolenaar.

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Moolenaar will also serve on three subcommittees. They are:

The subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies

  • This subcommittee has oversight over the Department of Agriculture, including its Office of Rural Development.

The subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies

  • This subcommittee has oversight of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Education.

The subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government

  • This subcommittee has oversight of the Department of the Treasury, the Executive Office of the President, and the federal judiciary.
