Moolenaar Fights For School Choice to Benefit Students and Parents
Today, Congressman John Moolenaar pushed for an amendment to the annual Department of Education budget that would bar the Biden Administration from using taxpayer funding to implement its new rules for charter schools. The new rules, which were published in May, would make it more difficult for charter schools to access grant funding in their first three years of existence.
“The Biden Administration’s new charter school rules are an underhanded attack on parents, students, and the teachers who work at charters,” said Moolenaar, who is the co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus. “By making it harder for these schools to receive grant funding, the Biden Administration is attempting to limit the opportunities parents can choose for their children. It’s wrong, and I am fighting for education freedom so parents and students will have more charter school choices available to them.”
From 1995 through 2019, the federal government awarded $3.9 billion to charter schools through the grant process.
