Moolenaar and Colleagues Demand Secretary Benson Comply With DOJ

November 21, 2025

Congressman John Moolenaar led the Michigan Republican congressional delegation in demanding Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson comply with the Department of Justice's request for unredacted access to the state's voter rolls. The letter follows the Michigan Legislature passing a resolution, led by State Rep. Joseph Fox, pressing the same of Secretary Benson on November 5, 2025.

"Clean and accurate voter rolls are foundational to free and fair elections. Secretary Benson's refusal to provide these records directly undermines that principle and raises serious concerns about the transparency and accountability of her office... As the Michigan Legislature has, we demand her to immediately comply with the DOJ’s lawful request for Michigan’s unredacted voter registration data and to cooperate fully with federal election integrity efforts," wrote the lawmakers.

"Right and fair elections go hand in hand with transparency. The lack of transparency and accountability leads to questioning the integrity of our voting process. We long for transparency in our elections in Michigan!” said State Rep. Joseph Fox.

The letter was signed by Reps. Bergman, Huizenga, Walberg, Barrett, McClain, and James. A copy of the letter can be found here.
