Michigan Receives $27 Million in State Opioid Response Grants
The federal Department of Health and Human Services has announced new grants for states to combat the nationwide opioid epidemic.
This includes $27 million in funding for Michigan through the State Opioid Response program at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Congressman John Moolenaar is Michigan's only member of Congress who sits on the Appropriations subcommittee with oversight of HHS and its response to the opioid crisis. He supports funding for states to combat the opioid crisis and has also backed legislation funding research into new pain relief treatments so patients can safely recover without the risk of addiction. He made the following statement on today's news:
"This funding will allow state government to work with health care professionals and first responders in our communities and support local programs for prevention and rehabilitation. The opioid crisis has touched the lives of people across Michigan and this new funding will help prevent opioid abuse and support those in the fight against addiction."
