Michigan Doctors Back Moolenaar’s Advocacy for Physician-Led Care for Veterans

MSA Thanks Moolenaar for Continued Support of Veterans Health Care

The Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA) is thanking Congressman John Moolenaar for his continued support of our nation’s veterans and for his leadership in helping ensure veterans receive the highest quality health care. Moolenaar recently sent a letter to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough on the importance of physician-led anesthesia care for veterans at the VA.

“America’s veterans deserve to have the highest quality treatment available to them and requiring there to be an anesthesiologist caring for them before surgery will help ensure they receive the best care. Unfortunately, some proposals have sought to remove this requirement. I am opposed to these proposals and will continue to advocate for Michigan veterans in Congress,” said Moolenaar. “I want to thank the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists for their support and for their advocacy on behalf of our nation’s veterans.”

“In surgery, where seconds can mean the difference between life and death, it is critical to have the highest-qualified personnel caring for patients,” said Neeju Ravikant, MD, MSA past president. "The Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists thanks Congressman Moolenaar for reaffirming his dedication to providing veterans with the safe and quality care they have earned. The anesthesia team model includes a highly trained anesthesiologist working together with nurse anesthetists to provide safe anesthesia care. This proven model is the highest standard of care, with its standard used across 96% of America, and the standard in all the nation’s top hospitals.”
