House Passes Moolenaar’s Funding Request for Saginaw Chippewa Tribe

November 3, 2023

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, voted for legislation setting the budget for the Department of the Interior for 2024. Included in the legislation are two funding requests made by Moolenaar to support the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe with more than $3.1 million dollars to improve wastewater and fresh water treatment facilities.

“As Michigan’s only member on the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to support the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe and residents in Isabella County with critical funding for the water treatment facilities they rely on every day. This funding will help improve the quality of life for residents and I will continue my efforts to help communities in the Second District receive the support they need for vital projects," said Moolenaar.

The House Appropriations Committee first included Moolenaar’s requests when the 2024 Interior budget was passed by the committee on July 19. The funding is $1,681,600 for the improvement of the Tribe’s wastewater facility, and $1,480,000 for the Tribe to replace fresh water infrastructure.
