Federal Charges In New York Are Another Example of How Gotion Is Wrong For Michigan

April 17, 2023

Today, the Department of Justice announced charges against two New York residents who were working in New York City and running a secret police station for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

“Today’s arrests highlight how the Chinese Communist Party uses resources in America to advance its agenda and harass people who speak out against the CCP. This is another example of why state and local leaders should not allow the subsidiary of Gotion High Tech to build a massive facility in Michigan. A company that pledges allegiance to the CCP will use all its resources, including subsidiaries, to carry out the CCP's agenda,” said Congressman John Moolenaar, a member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

In a statement from the Department of Justice, Breon Pace, the United States Attorney for Eastern New York said, "This prosecution reveals the Chinese government’s flagrant violation of our nation’s sovereignty by establishing a secret police station in the middle of New York City. As alleged, the defendants were directed to do the PRC’s bidding, including helping locate a Chinese dissident living in the United States, and obstructed our investigation by deleting their communications with a Chinese Ministry of Public Security official. Such a police station has no place here in New York City—or any American community.”

The House Select Committee has looked at how China uses secret police stations around the world to advance its agenda.
