Moolenaar Supports Bill to Promote Awareness of Alzheimer’s
Congressman John Moolenaar has signed on as a co-sponsor of the Promoting Alzheimer’s Awareness to Prevent Elder Abuse Act. The legislation instructs the Department of Justice to create best practices for law enforcement, emergency responders and other members of the legal system and social services on how to handle situations in which they interact with someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
"This legislation will raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and help our incredible first responders be ready for any situation in which they might encounter someone suffering from this horrible disease,” said Congressman Moolenaar. “I have always worked to help Michigan seniors and their families. I believe this legislation will increase awareness of the challenges families face with Alzheimer’s."
The Alzheimer’s Association predicts that 220,000 Michigan residents will have Alzheimer’s in 2025.
