"I don't think I've ever been to a medal ceremony so well-attended," said U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, when he greeted the crowd. "Today, we will present Ronnie with a number of awards and commendations. He earned these because of his diligence in training and his conduct as a soldier."

Congressman John Moolenaar was among those attending the ceremony. The Midland Republican said the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor honors recognize the heroic action of the officers who saved the lives of others.
"The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative does vital work across Michigan to protect the Great Lakes and the streams, rivers and lakes that run into them," said U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar, a Michigan Republican on the House appropriations committee.
Congressman Moolenaar released the following statement:
"This project at Michigan State brings world-class scientific research and millions of dollars to the economy of mid-Michigan. I worked with Congressman Mike Bishop, who is an effective advocate for this important facility, and I look forward to seeing it move forward at MSU."
Rep. John Moolenaar, R-Midland, urged his colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to include the restoration initiative funding in the spending bill.
"Working with private organizations and our state's leading research universities, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative does vital work across Michigan to protect the Great Lakes and the streams, rivers and lakes that run into them," Moolenaar said in a statement.
"I believe courage is given where courage is honored and your patriotic desire to serve has been rewarded with the honors of a grateful nation that can never do enough to pay you back for your service," said Moolenaar.
Moolenaar, the Republican representative for Michigan's 4th District, is a designated hitter who is typically assigned to the outfield. Wednesday's practice began at 6:15 a.m. with batting practice behind the plate and then off to the batting cages for machine pitches. Moolenaar was in the batting cage when he heard the first gunshot.
