Jobs and the Economy

Unnecessary and burdensome regulations have hindered economic growth and job creation in America. That is why I am fighting for smarter, pro-growth policies that get government out of the way and help small businesses expand and hire new workers. In fact, I have supported overturning numerous regulations written by unelected bureaucrats who do not understand the negative consequences of the rules they wrote.

Michigan has a talented workforce and world-leading manufacturing base, and we can keep it that way by promoting opportunities in the skilled trades. I am committed to ensuring residents have the opportunity to learn career and technical skills that are vital to applying for good-paying jobs.

"This is outstanding news for Beaverton and Gladwin County," said Congressman John Moolenaar. "This new development will create more than 200 jobs and it is a direct result of the Opportunity Zones in tax reform, which I supported in 2017. Tax reform has spurred developments including today's, as businesses across mid and northern Michigan build new facilities and create more good-paying jobs. This continues the strong economic record of the past couple of years, with unemployment at record lows, and Michigan residents keeping more of their own money, which is always a good thing."

by Congressman John Moolenaar

This past month has been tremendous for the Great Lakes. There were developments on three different fronts: funding for constructing a new lock at the Soo Locks, funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and a new plan to prevent Asian carp from entering Lake Michigan through the waterways near Chicago.

On May 21st, I voted for legislation in the House Appropriations Committee that fulfilled President Donald Trump’s request for $75.3 million dollars to start building a new lock at the Soo Locks.
