Moolenaar Votes to Protect American Elections
Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted in favor of H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The legislation requires proof of United States citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
“Voting is a fundamental right for American citizens to determine who will represent them in government and lead their communities. Unfortunately, a loophole allows for non-citizens to register to vote in federal elections simply by claiming they are U.S. citizens. This common-sense legislation closes the loophole and requires proof of citizenship to register to vote. I applaud the House for passing this important bill, and the Senate should consider it immediately,” said Moolenaar.
The SAVE Act passed the House of Representatives in a vote of 221 to 198. The legislative text can be found here. Moolenaar is a co-sponsor of H.R. 8281.
