Moolenaar Votes to Block Biden Regulation Allowing Chinese-Made EV Chargers

January 11, 2024

Today, Congressman John Moolenaar voted for legislation that will block the Biden administration from ending Buy America requirements for electric vehicle charging stations bought with U.S. taxpayer dollars.

“I voted for this legislation today to stop Biden’s burdensome and unworkable EV policies. This legislation will reduce our reliance on the CCP, spur American innovation, and protect the tax dollars of hardworking Michigan families. Biden’s plan to allow CCP-affiliated companies to receive tax dollars in exchange for EV chargers shows that his policies make our country more dependent on China, and we cannot allow that to happen. He should listen to the bipartisan majority in Congress and sign this bill,” said Moolenaar.

Last year, President Biden announced his goal to have two-thirds of all new cars sold in the United States to be electric vehicles by 2032. On February 21, 2023, The Federal Highway Administration submitted the rule to waive Buy America requirements for electric vehicle chargers. The rule would allow tax dollars to be used to buy electric vehicle chargers from CCP-affiliated companies.

S. J. Res. 38 passed the House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote of 209 to 198. It previously passed the Senate with a bipartisan vote of 50 to 48. The text of the legislation can be found here.
